forget the passcode for the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled

forget the passcode for the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled

If you forget your passcode, or if a message appears that your device is disabled, follow these steps to delete the passcode.

If you enter an incorrect passcode on your iOS device six times in a row, you will be locked and a message appears that your device is disabled. Know the steps to do.

First, choose the way to delete your device

Unless you have backed up before forgetting your passcode, there is no other way to save your device data.

You must delete the device, which means deleting all your data and settings. Choose a way to delete the device so you can delete the passcode:

If you have synced with iTunes, use iTunes.
If you cannot sync or connect with iTunes, use recovery mode.

Remove the device with iTunes to delete your passcode

If you have synchronized the device with iTunes, you can restore the device. This action will delete the device and its password.

Connect the device to the computer that you are synchronizing with the device.
Open iTunes. If a passcode is requested, try another computer that was used to sync, or use recovery mode.

Wait until iTunes synchronizes the device and makes a backup. If not, learn what to do.

After synchronization and backup are complete, click Restore [your device].

After you reach the Settings screen while restoring your iOS device, tap Restore from the iTunes backup.

Select a device on iTunes. See the date and size of each backup and choose the most relevant one.

Remove the device with recovery mode to delete your passcode

If you have never synced with iTunes, you must use recovery mode to restore the device. This action will delete the device and its password.

Connect your iOS device to the computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, you can borrow from a friend, or visit the Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

When the device is connected, restart forcibly:

On iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and release the Volume Up button quickly. Press and release the Volume Down button quickly. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

On iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side and Volume buttons down simultaneously. Hold it until you see the recovery mode screen.

On the iPhone 6s and earlier versions, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Main button and the Up button (or Side button) simultaneously. Hold it until you see the recovery mode screen.
